I must thank my sister for introducing me to WNYC Radiolab podcasts because they are one of my favourite sources of storytelling, education, fresh perspectives and new information. Here is the info from their ‘About’ page:
Radiolab believes your ears are a portal to another world. Where sound illuminates ideas, and the boundaries blur between science, philosophy, and human experience. Big questions are investigated, tinkered with, and encouraged to grow. Bring your curiosity, and we’ll feed it with possibility.
The topics they explore and people they interview is podcast in a way that transports you to another space, an aural space where I find myself totally committed to and undistracted. I listen to them when walking to and from work and when getting around Melbourne on foot which is one of my preferred modes of transport.
WNYC Radiolab incorporates music, sound effects and sounds edits that add immense interest and entertainment to the podcasts.
I can’t name a favourite podcast – they’re all interesting and all about very different topics – but here are the titles of some I’ve listened to so far:
- New Normal?
- Placebo
- Do I Know You?
- The Bus Stop
- Limits
- Vanishing Words
- Famous Tumors
- Deception
- Strangers in the Mirror
The titles are more of an abstract title for what each podcast explores such as Vanishing Words where a person’s decrease in their use of vocabulary can indicate more serious mental illness; Agatha Christie is presented as a case study for this.
WNYC Radiolab is a wonderful source of knowledge – thank you Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich for presenting some amazing insights. Your tagline says it all really…
This sounds interesting Kimberley – I shall have to investigate. I’m always on the look out for new forms of communication. Thanks!
I just love their style – kind of like storytime but you’re really learning something new!
